A Fashion Poem by FRANK FIERCE
Six- packs SOFTEN
We wear JEAN SHORTS over STOCKINGS
We LEATHER and we LAYER
And we change up our HAIR.
From beach BLONDES to cool COPPERS
Let your roots go
and your true colors show
because it is Ombre after all.
Designers are once again using global issues and current events as sources of inspiration. This fall/winter 2010 socio-political steeze is turning up on catwalks and my closet into a MILITARY MESS!
From BURBERRY to H&M, going GREEN means more than eco-friendly fabrics, recycling or being socially responsible…
The trick to this look is once again NOT doing the military chick look head to toe, unless you’re going for the GI Jane/ Laura Croft look (if so..STOP.)
GREEN Must buys:
-A badass studded jacket
-A badass studded boot/heal/wedge (whatever your steeze)
-A badass comfy cardi/whoolie/hoodie (diddo)
-a pretty, soft, pastel, nude blouse
-all black anything (K.I.S.S)
-metalics… but only 1 piece!
Peace not war,
If accessories are known as “statement pieces” then consider what your watch says about you…
If you’re an Ashley Olsen type- this watch is for you. It’s a MICHAEL KORS soft gold watch. It says: “I’m sophisticated, high maintenance and trendy… but not the kind of trendy that I don’t wash my hair everyday.”
If you’re a Whitney Port type, this watch (probably his watch) is for you. It says “I’m trendy, love a good vintage piece and can rock the boyfriend look.. great watch hubby, CAN I BORROW IT?!”
I personally own one type of each because lets face it, I’m a style comeleon as most fashionistas are. I predict that fall/winter 2010 will be the season for watches…especially the WHITE WATCH. Like the white tiger of Asia, the WHITE WATCH says “I’m a rare and illusive creature.. a hybrid of classic sophistication and trendy.”
“WWJD!! What would Jeane Beker Do?!”
This shittious ensomble was spotted in the docking area of Waterfront station. YIKES! This is the perfect example of the jean jacket gone so so so wrong.
Not a look to rock,
“This summer is all about the flared jean… First comes flare, second comes skinny!”
Bebe wedges, 7 jeans, American Eagle sweater, Guess bomber jacket, ARC shades
Too soon for “womans inspired menswear?”
Since the days of Audrey Hepburn, Annie Hall and Amelia Earhart we’ve seen countless outfits inspired by well constructed and chic menswear. I’m referring to the trouser pant, the classic white dress shirt and of course the blazer which is better known now as “the boyfriend blazer.” While clicking through archives of The Sartorialist, I stumbled upon a post entitled: “ARE WE READY TO DISCUS SKIRT LENGTHS FOR MEN”
Despite my pre-planning and waking up at 8am for a 2pm call time, I managed to forget a lint roller. Seriously.. what kind of stylists leaves home without a lint roller?! Designer Drew Williams saved my backside!
The back stage scene was pretty organized when you take into consideration how many models, hair and makeup, photographers, designers all had to squeeze into this room. Within 4 hours, I’m pretty sure I inhaled the equivalent to a full bottle of hairspray which may have something to do with how scatter brained I felt. Here are some more backstage pics thanks to shutterdreams for the pics!
The look on the girls faces say it all! They had these enormous ponytails held in place with industrial hair ties, followed by close to 30 minutes of back teasing, hairspray and after all that, I sadly had to say … “Girls, those tails are not high enough..” and they’d redo. This is why people say pain is beauty! I am so proud of my hair team!!
This weekend was such a rollercoaster of highs and lows. It’s a cliché metaphor I know but it was definately a ride. I have a love-hate relationship with rollercoasters. Not many people believe me when I tell them how my nerves always get the best of me to the point where after every dance competition (waaaay back when) I was known for throwing up seconds after a performance due to the overwhelming surge of nerves and excitement. “Hahaha no no no I’m fine! Happens all the time!!” No joke. Same thing goes for rollercoasters. The funny thing is, I’d be first cutting the line and sitting in the front minutes later.
I felt that same anxious excitement during my interview backstage and again watching the girls strut on the catwalk. The past weeks for a few minutes.. it’s an interesting concept. Over in a camera flash, I raced backstage with Jenna Zedel my partner in crime, changed into a fierce outfit, business cards in hand I made my way through the crowds mingling mingling mingling!!
Today is all about re-connecting with the people I met, sending out thank-u emails and following up with my team. This last step in networking, I find is often forgotten and probably the most crucial.
To make my point, consider this: I snagged a handful of cards that represent my future business relationships. I have but a few days to remind them of who I am and why they gave me their card and asked for mine. That’s a big deal if you consider that to make it in this industry, it’s so much more about WHO YOU KNOW than what you know. Don’t believe me? Try it.
Also, I have a major crush on a designer… I will reveal in due time 🙂
Ride the wave people,
“I would normally apologize” for my lack of bluuuuuhhh…. haha sorry just clearing my throat… My lack of journalistic updates BUT I’ll have you know that I’ve been a work machine! Planning, scouting, emails, emails, emails, parties and of course finishing up my last 2 weeks of University!
So here’s an update quick style: Friday night I went on a Donnelly Group club tour which was unreal. The tour was set up for student body executives from SFU, UBC, BCIT and CAP U to tour their clubs (like we need a tour lol) and “build relationships with the student body of these institutions as to facilitate future collaborative events.” Well whatever the reason, it was a bowl of fun! We went to Granville Room, tour of Cinema the day prior to open, Academic, Pop Opera and of course Republic via limos and loads of drinks to keep the mingling going. Long story short: I met some amazing people and felt like a rockstar doing it. See kids, it pays to be a nerdbomb!
Saturday was date night. Amazing. Nuff said 🙂
Sunday I had a major casting call for VFW runway show. I was pretty impressed at the turnout! There is less than 3 days left to get this show going and everyone is feeling the pressure especially now with TOP MODEL LINSAY modeling PORSCIA’S designs!! This experience has been a big deal for me. I can’t wait for show and the after show mingling!!!
Do people, do!
All Nude Everything: Colors: nude obvi, off- whites, blush rose, soft greys, silky silvers, sand. Materials: lux fabrics..Suede.
Charts and Graphs: Colors: hmmm I’d say stick to 2 colors like black and white but tie die is in so do watevs! Materials: Also, anything goes; more flattering look is in the fit, in the fit.
Unless you suffer from major body fluctuations, chances are you probably have been the roughly the same size as you were a few years ago- which means, chances are you have elements of these lucious seasonal trends sitting in your closet or tucked away in your summer wardrobe box. In the spirit of the Easter Egg Hunts, treat yourself to your own little couture hunt! hehe You’ll be surprised trust me.
My purse strings just got a lock and combo put a few days ago..on account of a major Euro trip about a month away!! I’ve been tempted and will continued to be but I must remember all the amazing treasures awaiting me overseas. The last purchase until my trip were a pair of cat-eye sunnies in a brown speckle print… for $5.60… yaaaa how could I not?! Thank you Mainstreet! Back to my point: waste not, want not.
Okay here’s the scoop—-I’m moving my proverbial WordPress wardrobe to www.frankfierce.com.
This time has been coming since the day I took my metaphorical baby steps some short 3 months ago. Just as quickly as we outgrew last summers hottest Industry night location along with the outfit we wore, Frank Fierce has outgrown W.P. If you’ve been following me, you’re probably just as amazed to see how many people have replied to my cry for help. This truly speaks volumes to the power of maintaining your network but more importantly, networking with people outside your industry or field of expertise.
Like so many other girls out there suffering from tech-e-litteracy, this simple task to a web master/master-ette causes me some serious stress- induced nightmares! Thank the man in the clouds! (a little insider from the movie The Invention of Lying.)
In any event, I am stoked. My work as a stylist has allowed me to experience the process of having my creative vision fulfilled and I think this project will be just as fulfilling, stressful, exciting and such a learning experience.
Stay tuned fierce people,
For as long as Clinton Kelly and Stacy London have been my personal fashion gurus, I have known that sandals and socks are a big “no no!” This cardinal rule runs along side the fashion PhoPa likes such as tapered pants, camel toe and muffin top. Now I never thought I’d see the day when sandals and socks where the next big trend! Well never say never especially when it comes to fashion.
I was thumbing through March 2010 Elle Canada when my f-hawk (fashion hawk) eye spotted it. I admit I let out a bit of a gasp that set some sharp glares my way from my peers in my Marketing class. I had to see more. Whipped open my laptop, googled and this is what I found:
On a side note: The first thing that came to mind was a song I learned to play on my clarinet in elementary school “Black socks they never get dirty the longer you wear them the blacker they get!” The next stream of thoughts were like a polarode images flipping through my memory of where I had seen this before… Clueless, Harajuku, China and when I was around 10 my mother would have me wear crisp white socks with lacey- trimmed tops or some sort of ribbon, bobble piece with my white sandals during an easter egg hunt at my church. I won’t even comment on the floral fru fru dress that brought me to a furry of tom-boy tears.
Apart from my horrifying memories of all the sandal and sock images I have witnessed in my life time, I have decided to take my own advice and be a fierce fashion crusader. I shall embark on a sock-shopping mission to H&M and Claires and will attempt to pull this trend off this weekend while “on the scene.”
Stay tuned for images of Frank taking a swig of her own meds. Hope it’s sweet!
I’ve been holding off from writing about this seeing as though the entire planet (exaaaageration) is… I like going against the grain, but this past week I’ve noticed some serious changes around the city. Beyond asthetically and infustructure… PEOPLE are getting jacked up! I LOVE IT! Fiiiiinally. We’re finally embracing the games. But not everyone is in-the-know about what, where, when, of all the glorious things to do around VanCity- Not to worry peeps, Frank’s here!
Ok people, after hours of research I’ve condensed all you need to enjoy- SERIOUSLY enjoy the Olympics.
1) GET OUT AND ABOUT
So this comes with a bit of a reality check and attitude adjustment. Yes this city is going to be crazy and yes getting around is gonna be silly times. Make your peace with it and embrace the chaos! Lots of you will be working wacky hours etc. and most businesses will be a bit more accomidating at this time, so take advantage- get your pallies together and start a bit of chaos of your own 🙂
2) NO MONEY HONEY
Ok if there is 1 thing to take away from this post, this is it. Have you heard of LIVECITY YALETOWN? Didn’t think so lol. David Lam Park will feature a number of top local, Canadian and international entertainers on the stage, plus big-screen Olympic Winter Games sporting coverage, Olympic sponsor and partner pavilions, educational and family programming. Big named performers include: Default, Mother Mother, DJ SPOOKY, MATISYAHU, Alexsisonfire, Mariana’s Trench, SAM ROBERTS, aaaaaaand DEADMAU5…. yaaaa no big deal!! For full sched http://vancitybuzz.blogspot.com/2010/01/livecity-yaletown-olympics-schedule.html
Ohhh did I mention— This is free? Gosh I love a deal!
3) GROUND FLOOR FUN
Simply put, get to ground zero for fun times! It’s estimated that a few thousand foreignors will be here within the first few DAYS of the games… Imagine all that fresh meat lol So seriously get to Granville, Olympic Village, Gastown, Robson Street- pretty much this is the best time to meat (haha I mean meet) new people that are here to party.
I know the job of being host/hostess is a thankless job… Ok read between the lines. So really if you don’t have an amazing time during the Olympic games, it’s your fault cus VanCity has done its part. DO YOURS 🙂
Lots o love VanCity,
Laaaalaaaa weekend!!!! Thank God it’s Frank 😉
Ok here’s a little compoLation of musica to play while getting your fierce faces & fresh threads on… This list is sure to get ur staaaaank face warmed up!
Groove Armada- Superstylin
Pheonix- Lisztomania Remix
Lights- Ice Spike Club Remix
Medina- You & I- Deadmau5 Remix
Image: A crisp morning, sun thawing away layers of a dreary winter.
Meaning: Reincarnation of past styles is upon us.
Spring is upon us-I know you can feel it too. Have you noticed how everyday the air seems to heat up just a degree more and that you’ve sported a slightly less Eskimo – esq jacket?? It’s time people. Turn up the heat, get jacked up cus Spring 2010 is not for the color shy.
–Spring 2010 Trend—
“PSYCHEDELIC Hippie Sisters”
The legendary “Prince of Prints”, Emilio Pucci’s Spring 2010 collection on FTV last night embodied the straight-outta- the 60’s look. This house was made for this season- literally. It was founded in Capris in the 60’s so naturally the collection was inspired and effortless.
Everything from the floral arrangements in the hair, the bright wood bangles to the kaleidoscope of prints! DVF’s collection was a stand out.
Versace translated this trend by using modern prints while holding true to their reputation of cutting close to the body- “keep her sexy, keep the clothing sleek.”
Frank Tips for this trend:
- Opt for color
- Choose modern prints: animal and geometric
- K.I.S.S: Keep it simple & sleek- for all those color-shy, pick 1 piece and incorportate it into your current wardrobe, like a new clutch, blouse or shoes.
Alright fashionistas/istos- Stay fierce
“It’s twenty seconds till the last call, you’re going hey hey hey hey hey hey!!”
It took an act of God or some sort of cosmic force to get me to the concert. All the odds were against me- no tickets, was working that night etc etc… and within an hour, everything lined up perfectly! It took a guy getting called into work to Craigslist his tickets, my guy to spot them then bbm me that “we are going! It’s OUR band how can we not?!” followed by an afternoon of tears, serious TEARS and bribes to get my shift covered… So yah I was beyond excited! The night’s anticipation was palpable.
The city was hyped up unlike anything I’ve experience for a relatively “under-ground” band. Apparently, the concert was sold out within hours. No surprise considering the huge indie/alternative rock following in Vancouver. On a side note: I’ve never seen soooo many skinny jeans and nerd glasses in my life!! Frank Fierce loved it!!
Opting for beers over the opening band, we arrived just after 9pm, b-lined to the bar yet again, doubled up and just as we imbibed, Phoenix took flight opening with LISZTOMANIA?! Gotta love a band that starts with one of their biggest singles to date. Heck ya.
-These 7 guys are FRENCH- from the burbs of Versailles and the lead singer formed DAFT PUNK!
– They’ve release 3 albums and are Grammy nominated
-Their 2 singles Lisztomania and 1901 has been downloaded thousands within hours of their release and the song 1901 pays tribute to early Paris.
Ok back to the concert!!!
The feeling in the Orphium theatre was pure bliss: Hands in the air, hair flips, eyes closed, lights swirling and the occasional wooooo!!! I was shocked and impressed at how great their sound was. I would venture to say that they’re better LIVE. Yes, that is a bold statement 🙂
The set was back to back hits and then lead singer Thomas Mars thanked the crowd and packed up…. hmmm…. really???!! Keep in mind they hadn’t even played “1901.” Minutes later, ENCORE TIME- They sang 3 un-plugged songs, one being “RUN RUN”….. And then…………. FLASH MOB!!!!! (there’s just not enough ! to get across how f**king unbelievable this was to witness.) I’ve cried at a handful of concerts and I kid you not when I say that this moment definitely set on a wave of emotions- Euphoric.
“Watch her moving in elliptical patterns /Think it’s not what you say /What you say is way too complicated /For a minute thought I couldn’t tell how to fall out”
Still “wow’d!” Stay fresh people,
~Frankie Frankie Frankie
“All that glitters is not globe.. I mean GOLD… What I mean is, all that glitters IS NOT Golden Globe worthy.”
I’m talking about some serious mis- steps here on the Golden Globe fashion front. Yes, there was plenty of outstanding ensembles worn by Penelope Cruz, Kate Hudson, Zoe Saldana and Drew Berrymore. These fashionista’s have a near flawless track record IMO and to be Frank, they’re getting plenty of media coverage as it is.
SO, enough of the goods! Let’s chat about the eye-sores of the evening.. (eye-sores?? To harsh?? You be the judge.)
The first fashion PhoPaaa is by non other than Jennifer Lopez… I say recycle EVERYTHING but when it comes to BIG awards & galas, don’t get caught wearing the same thing twice! Jennifer you know better! By all means, wear what you love, just maybe not back to back years at the same event… hold off for a few years and call it a “vintage piece.” lol
Next on the chopping block is Miss Heidi Klum.. it would seem she wore 2 outfits?? This black, lack-luster party dress and a baby blue gown.. Both were serious no-no’s! Why?? It’s simple. We expect more from her. Plain and simple. But we don’t want plain and simple from her we want drama, we want to gasp, ooo and aaaa at her NOT YAWN.
Alright, moving right along. Blake Lively. Also a huge yawn fest. For me, this look is played played played out. It’s great to have your own personal style but common girly, it’s too early in your career to pigeon hole yourself in a proverbial fashion box. Be fearless, take a risk!
Next is Marisa Tomei trying out for the next Pirates of the Caribbean. Nuff said.
Lastly on the chopping block is Renee Zellweger in a bad bad bad up-do straight outta my 2004 prom photos. Sweet lord! I know sheer fabrics and detailing are on the fashion horizon but this demonstration of it is just wrong! Who in their right mind would sport a see-through top INTENTIONALLY to an awards ceremony with a granny-nude bra underneath. On the brightside, at least this horrid top distracts the eye from the clam-shapped mermaid skirt. How she scooted across the red carpet without falling over I’ll never know…
So these ladies have some homework to do (or at least fire their stylists)… but compared to this next fashion flopp.. well… let’s just say they coulda done worse!!!
Ok so God doesn’t give with both hands right? Right. Not to say that Tina Fey isn’t an attractive, top-notch writer and hilarious actress.. but she can’t dress herself AT ALL. Either her stylist is a dud or she’s doing her own shopping.. either way, somethings gotta give! It’s a pity too because this is all anyone talks about when she’s mentioned. Despite her nomination for Best Actress in TV series for her work in 30 Rock. Yes, that is the world we live in so all you huffing about how cruel life is that people judge a book by its cover, get a grip and play your cards right. Instead of giving the critics more ammo, dress to the occasion!
Now, I’m not saying that fashion is “serious” business and one shouldn’t have fun with their clothing, but there’s a certain elegance and appropriateness that needs to be considered when dressing for these types of events. I’d love to see her in something a little less costume-e and more elegant.
Dear Style Gods, if you’re listening, please send Tina Fey an Oscar De La Renta dress for her next awards show…. Something like this….
Am I right?!
Big Congrats to some of my favs: Up in the Air- Best Screen Play, Alec Baldwin- 30 Rock Best Actor, Madmen for Best TV Drama, Christopher Waltz win Best Supporting Actor for Inglorious Bastards, James Cameron won Best Director for Avatar aaaaaand Sandy Bullock for Blind Side!!
Stay fierce, happy Monday people!
“Calling all Daddies and Dames! Escape into the dark side of the 1920’s at the Speakeasy Fashion Show Party..” And boy oh boy did they deliver!
A super last minute invite from a fashionisto, and we made our way to Granville’s Republic Club. By 9pm the joint was packed, atmosphere hyped up and the crowd buzzing with anticipation.
To my surprise, the crowd was a mix of BCIT, UBC and CapU students. The $10 tix gave us a bird’s-eye view, 2 cocktails and 2 shooters. Now these guys know how to get a crowd in the mood for a stellar night. Definitely No Prohibition!
Promptly at 9:35pm the lights dimmed, Ella Fitzgerald filled the room and the show began- STRONG. The first model captivated every single person in the club!!
This pic doesn’t do it justice- but take it from me, this was a stunner! What a great take on the LBD (little black dress); Sequined, one shoulder, A-lined finish (all very typical of the era) but with the added fuchsia flounce!! SHUT UP. Talk about a balance between inspired and not trying to re-invent the wheel… haha like adding spinners to the wheel.
These next gowns took the glam factor up a notch with intricate bust-line detailing, lux satin fabric and lovely lady hats. (aheeeeem people… 2010 year of the hat!!)
A quick song change initiated the next wave of garments. This collection took us through the closet of the modern-day flapper. The bright colors and use of nude underlay gave the impression of barely there frocks that were topped off perfectly with pin curls and feathered head bands- all to the sounds of Chicago’s “And all that Jazz.”
The finale was by far my fav. All the standout garments made their way out for one last applause and snap shots from the string of paparazzi. This image left a strong impression of a well thought out theme that was executed flawlessly. It was fun, bright, sexy and glamorous. As a whole, it was costume-e, but with a little vision, pieces from all collections could easily EASILY be worn everyday. The show left me wanting more.
The designers (as listed on the invite) were Emily Heaps (Kwantlen), Meagan Squire (Kwantlen), Annching Wang (BCIT), Karsten Ergetowski (Kwantlen), JYstar Apparel, Damsel in Dis Dress, Dream, True Value Vintage Clothing. BCITMA did a fantastic job not only organizing this event, but creating an event that showcased Vancouver’s up & coming designers and models. This city may be small in comparsion to fashion capitals like NYC, London and Toronto but we are definately NOT void of talent and vision.
On a side note: I’ve just been invited to the year end show in April and I can’t wait 🙂
Fierceness witnessed!! I am inspired. Bravo.
This week’s picks for steezey Vancity kids!!
~~~MY CHICK PICK~~~
Her style is all about modern construction, clean lines and always quality first. She is effortless. Wanna look like her? A great place to start is Aritzia located all over the city-find romantic blouses, modern skirts, boyfriend blazers and basics galor… and a favorite of mine- One of Few http://www.oneofafew.com/ for great bags and those one-of-a- kind pieces that will outlast the test of time.
~~~MY BRO CHOICE~~~
A Whistler native, Will’s style varies depending on the day; you might see him shredding in bright, 80’s synthpop gear and a few hours later, rocking a tux with a vintage bow-tie, jeans and obvi a neon green toque. His style is a mix of boy- shredder meets city gentlemen. If Frank was a dude, I’d dress just like him. Wanna look like him- Second Wave North Vancouver skate and surf shop http://www.second-wave.ca/ and Retro Rock Vintage Clothing on Davie OR Commercial Drive for things your pops wore, like elbow patched blazers ohhhh yaaaa.
There you have it people 🙂
Note: This is an ongoing series so if you’re fierce enough- you might just end up on my pick list. I’ll be watching (muahahaa ) I kid I kid.. But yah props to you VanCity boys and girls rocking the your own style fiercely- Stay tunned for next weeks picks.
Lots o love people,
I’m talking about the nerd glasses! A few months ago I picked up a pair. Got a few snarky remarks from fearful friends but whoa whoa whoa— NOW THEY R EVERYWHERE. I. Called. it. Now who looks stupid 😛
A quick look back in history and what do ya know?! Looks like geek chic specks are reserved for all stars.
….then the geek glasses where MIA until the 70’s
And then Marilyn rocked em! But then again, she could wear a paper bag and still look amazing… Unfortunately, the 80’s were not so kind to SJR. But hey, she definately DEFINATELY owned this look!
And today, celebs are giving Urkel a run for his money lol
So there you have it my fellow nerdbombs! We’re in gooooood company with the likes of GOK, KANYE, SCARLETTE, JOHNNY, even MADONNA’S spawn LOURDES is getting involved!
My advice- be Klark Kent today- Give Superman the day off wouldja?!
Love, Peace and Geek Pride people,
The beginning of each year brings about a certain inversion of perspective. It’s a time where most (myself included) take the time to reflect and digest.
We evaluate the year gone by, habits good and bad, decisions made or avoided, goals not met or even made for that matter. Some like to call it “resolutions” while others claim to “Like, I don’t need the beginning of a year to make goals; I make them irregardless all year-round.” mmmhmm Whatever your resolution habbits may be, it seems the whole world- businesses, fashion trends etc. takes this time to turn over a new leaf, shed the layers of the year gone by and start over- heck even mother nature is doing it.. a little thing we like to call Spring. According to the Chinese Zodiac sign, 2010 is the year of the Tiger.
According to me, this year in fashion is the year of the Hat. That’s right. The year of the Hat/ Chapeaux for all you Frenchies. (whom I love lol) I’m putting it out there, risking being wrong and saying on record that Spring 2010 will be Hat heaven. Yipppie!!! Here’s a sneak peek at this head-turning trend!!
This look speaks of a young lady; traveled, educated, romantic and sophisticated. The collection featured a not-so-new take on the mini skirt. Why fix something that aint broke!! We’ve seen this skirt before, which means lots of us ladies can pull this look off without re-inventing our spring wardrobes 🙂 Just top this look off with the perfect men’s inspired hat for that added Je ne sais quoi. This one’s a mild-medium in the fearless-fashion scale IMO
This take on the hat is definitely for the bad-ass biatch in all of us. Lady Gaga rocked this number in the video Bad Romance and let it be noted that although I dig this look, it’s not for everyone or for every occasion. This one’s definitely a medium-hot on the fearless-fashion scale! Be brave!!
For all you less fearless fashionistas/istos, this super mild trend is one we’ve seen a bunch last summer. If you thought the Fedora was a fleeting trend, think again, and add this number to your wardrobe- Trust me, you’ll get your money’s worth especially if you pick one up at your local vintage store for half the price of a new one.
Incorporating this trend into your evening wardrobe is easier than you think! On the mild fearless-fashion scale, Frank suggests updating that tired hairband!! Try this on for size.
This little number is from WetSeal but already I’ve seen similar ones in a few accessory shops around town. TBF (to be frank) this isn’t a far cry from the feathered hair-bands we’ve rocked recently. Ditch that Blair Waldorf one for now. It’s fun and definitely makes the party hat obsolete.
Fashion tips and trend- setting aside, self-reflection is super important. Beyond how much fun the summer was or what travelling plans you’re looking forward to in the upcoming months, consider the little changes, the small feats and big victories of 2009. Take a moment and recognize the possibilities of leveraging all those moments into something even bigger, even better this next year! This year is the year 🙂
Stay fearless people,
Heyoooo party people!
If you’re anything like me, you already know what your wearing tomorrow night… in fact, you’ve had this outfit picked out for quite sometime. Now all that’s left is figuring out WHERE to wear it!
Unlike last year- people have been slow to pull the trigger on NYE tickets. Friends have said that it’s because “New Years isn’t that big of a deal this year” “tickets are too expensive” “no one knows what they’re doing” “I’ll probably have people over,” etc etc etc.
So if any of these sounds like something you’ve said- cool noooo probs. This post will give you a quick look at some of VanCity’s NYE fiesta’s- Tickets still available- deals on them still to be had 😉
In no particular order:
1) Party at the Library
Calling all book worms and sexy librarians! This NYE bash is definately out-of-the-box. Located in the heart of of downtown on Robson and Homer street, this landmark Romanesque concorse and moon-lit ambiance will provide a unique and stylish backdrop for the night’s festivities. For invitations and tix call Jonathan Jassebi 778-883-8667
2) Masquerade @ Circa Resto/Lounge
Circa is one of my favorite spaces. With its lofty high ceilings and arch-ways, 2 levels and romantic-edgy decore, it’s no surprise a Masaquerade theme was chosen. It’s a perfect fit! On a side note, there’s something uber sexy about mask’d men IMO. Tickets still available at http://clubzone.com
3) The End of the Raj @ Ginger 62
I’m always down to dress up! Dress like Indian royalty and be treated as such. What court would be complete without the royal performers… this special evening will feature contortionists and manipulations by performers from Inner Ring, the hypnotic undulations of the ever-alluring Harem Dancers, and special Indian Royalty inspired performances by some of the city’s finest burlesque performers. Wow sounds amazing. Tickets still available at http://www.clubzone.com/events/Vancouver/174811/NYE-2010-High-Society-presents-The-End-of-the-Raj
I did some research on events without tickets and they all seem to be resturantes such as Cactus Club @ Bental location, Browns, Opus Bar, The Cellar, Lux At Caprice, The Lamplighter, Vanilla Room, SIP and a few others. All these places don’t require tickets and will probably be just as much fun if you round up your pals and let loose!
So when making your choice, I suggest you consider
1) Are you going in a group + 5? (pick a no ticket place)
2) Do you want to stay in one place all night? (pick a ticket place)
3) Do you want ambiance, decore, costumes, service, luxury? (pick a ticket place)
4) Do you want to dress up? (pick a ticket place)
5) Do you want to pick up? (either or! just bring your game)
AND REMEMBER- either way, your fucked by our cabs, so choose wisely and plan on staying downtown till the weeee hours of Jan 1 2010.
Stay fierce people!!
Spotted: (ahaha GG fan right here) no seriously… Spotted: Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 Collection in the latest Lady Gaga masterpiece- BAD ROMANCE. A futuristic take on Russian bath-house…Yah it’s goooooood 🙂 Keep your couture eyes peeled in this video.
Look Familiar?! “Walk walk fashion baby..”
Alexander McQueen that is. This 2.5 minute look at Spring 2010 sent chills down my spine and all the way to my platform-loving feet!!! Ok so yes the clothing, the patterns blew me away- BUT THE SHOES!!! Now they were the show-stopper in my books. … “Dear Santa, Frank Fierce here… again… scrap my last list… all I want…”
Stop laughing boys!!! I know I know, this x-tomboy, soccer playing, sneaker- loving fashionista must be out of her mind… but the middle one isnt THAT high???? Fack it– I LOVE THEM… I’d risk rolling an ancle..or breaking a leg… or better yet, I’d place them in Courtney’s (my roomie) China hutch and admire them from a safe distance lol
Stay fearless people!
